I've been wondering about what happens when someone without health insurance gets cancer or MS or other serious illnesses. And at first my musing was all about treatment. Where would they go. Do their families have to carry the burden of the costs. Are there cancer treatment centers for the uninsured?
But, then I remembered the extensive tests that have to happen before you even get the diagnosis. And how with some illnesses, it can take years of tests before the correct diagnosis is made. And it seems unlikely that a person without health insurance (in the United States) would even find out the cause of their suffering -- until it's too late.
How far does a cancer have to advance before it generates an emergency room visit?
Would it be possible or reasonable to stage a national march or demonstration about this issue? Or is it just to routine and dull?
