Dennis Bean-Larson, the guy behind
Fixed Gear Gallery, has launched
killacyclist.com:
www.killacyclist.com needs correspondents in every state in the US and Canadian Provinces, Euro nations ....
Here's what you'll do:
a) Research on-line and compile the existing laws relating to bicycles on the road in your state and any pending legislation.
b) Research for incidents of cyclists from being killed by auto/truck drivers.
c) Simply turn on your radar and update that info as needed.
Here's what you'll get:
a) Stickers to distribute and stick onto police cars, municipal court doors, etc (just kidding, please stick responsibly)
b) Your own email address at killacyclist.com
c) A killacyclist.com staff t-shirt and spokecard/presscard when your state's basic info is posted.
[As of 15:40 EDT they had KY, NY, and TX covered.]
....
The intent of this website is to give bicyclists a place through which to lobby politicians, cycling advocacy groups, law enforcement agencies, road commissions, and national and state highway authorities to increase the safety of bicyclists on the road through better education of automobile and truck drivers about the rights of cyclists on public thouroughfares and by increasing the penalties for killing a cyclist on the road to the same level as those provided for highway road workers in Michigan and many other states.
....
Use your constitutional clout as a citizen and taxpayer to voice your opinion and help make the roads safer for cyclists.
We need volunteers in every state to research the state laws, statutes, driver's education and licensing tests to determine what is needed in each state.
