I'm amazed by the number of comments on DailyKos referring to books that the writer has found interesting and informative on political subjects. I have picked up some good ideas for books I should read. It got me to thinking that we need some sort of forum on DailyKos devoted to books.
I have in mind a place where Kossacks can give a brief review of a book that they have found enlightening and open the floor to discussion. I'm thinking I could put up a similar diary once a month or so. I'm sure we would get repeat discussion of some books, but I don't see that as a bad thing.
So, a few ground rules:
Please limit discussion to `political' books. Somewhat loosely defined (I see books on Global Warming as fair game since it's a hot political topic, for instance). The latest Stephen King book probably doesn't make the cut.
If you want to review a book, please start a new thread on this diary (don't respond to another comment, respond to the diary).
In the subject line, list book title, author and give it a rating of 0 to 4 in parentheses. (0) = Terrible book, couldn't even finish it. (1) = Finished it, but wouldn't recommend it unless reader is really into that author/subject. (2) = Pretty good, but not like I'm raving about it to friends. (3) = Very good, encouraging others to read it. (4) = Great Book! Waving it around and expounding on it at parties! Buying copies for friends.
In the body, please write a brief review (no more than a screen's worth)
If you like, include a link to an online review that you found useful (Amazon, etc.)
I'll start with three books I've read recently.
