I have been a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates all of my life. Some of my fondest memories as a kid are going to their games in the old Three Rivers Stadium. However recent ownership has shown a consistent inability to do
anything right. They have had 13 straight losing seasons, and will surely add another this season.
But they have done one thing right, this season. They have shown that they value their gay and lesbian fans.
This weekend Pittsburgh hosted the national conference of the Stonewall Democrats, the largest sponsor of the conference, the
Pittsburgh Pirates.
It doesn't end there. As a part of PrideFest later this month, they will be hosting Pride Picnic and Night with a portion of the revenues being donated to the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Pittsburgh. They'll even get the Jumbotron greeting treatment. Personally, it sounds like a lot better time than the new phenomena of Faith Night.
I really dislike what ownership has done to my team, but on this one, they deserve some credit.
