In case anyone missed it this morning, Pat Robertson on his 700 club "news" program featured Joseph Libermann and the Conneticut primary.
He starts by stating that, "...[M]any democrats including his former running mate Al Gore, won't lift a finger to help him."
While the "news" report is skewed toward the "I can't believe liberals are doing this to him," there is an interesting section in the report which summerizes several disagreements progressives have with Libermann other than the war.
In the report Libermann calls people who are against him "hotheads." He laments that a so-called "test" as to who can be a democrat will lead to that party being a "minority party."
The report claims that there are more independents and republicans who are planning to vote in the general primary for Libermann and in a 3 way race, Joe Libermann will win.
CBN goes on to show that Libermann is a liberal by using the ACLU's ratings and comparing him to Charles Schumer and Ted Kennedy. Libermann ranks at 71% same as Schumer with Kennedy at 86%.
They then go on to claim that years ago Democrats were run by strong pro-military leaders like FDR, Truman and "Scoop" Jackson but are now controlled by FAR left wing anti-war groups. This they claim will hurt democrats in the general election despite the fact that CBN reports on the unpopularity of the war among Americans.
Finally, Robertson comments that Libermann is more of a traditional Democrat because "in the old days the Democrats were interested in the United States, in America. They weren't the slaves to any far out ideology" He then goes on to lament the polorization of the political parties. He claims that party spirit is "deadly." He catches himself by claiming not to endorse Libermann but goes on to state that Libermann is a nice guy because he called Robertson when the latter had prostate surgery.
Now, it's just amazing the audacity and the gall this man has. To claim that polorized parties are deadly when this man is the origination of much of that is incredible. I am reminded of statements said by Native people about speaking with a forked tongue. Of course, we know what christians feel about snakes.
Ladies and gentleman, you can add Pat Robertson to the list of Libermann supporters.
