First of all, this is
not a political or world affairs diary. Mea Culpa. This is about sustenance for a weary traveller in what used to be the greatest food city on the continent, New Orleans. I'm headed there next week for a conference, and I need to know if it's
still the best place to eat anywhere this side of, well, anywhere...
Please use this as an open thread for those with recent knowledge to advise me (and the rest of the world) where to eat (and drink and be merry) in New Orleans these days. And for those seeking political relevance, think of it as an economic development piece.
My favorite restaurant anywhere is Commander's Palace, but their
website tells me they're still closed. Can someone conclusively tell me differently?
How about Central Grocery? Mother's? How about Lucky Dogs -- are the carts out?
Places all over the country claim, "New Orleans cuisine," but there's no comparison. Only in New Orleans can you get this stuff. At least that used to be the case. I really hope it still is...
And by the way, I'll only be in the city, and won't have a car, so while I appreciate the rest of the area's eats, I'm mostly interested in what's happening inside New Orleans this time. And yes, I know it's going to be really, really hot. But I'm from north Florida. I'm okay with heat and humidity.
Thanks in advance -- I'm looking forward to your guidance!
