Jake Knotts
will not run as an independent for governor of South Carolina.
He looks to have collected enough signatures, but he didn't think he could raise the $2 million needed for a campaign, or $20,000 a day till Election Day as the Greenville News pointed out.
"In the world of multi-millionaires, $20,000 may not seem like much, but for many of the people I speak for, $20,000 represents more than they earn in a year," Knotts told supporters at the Statehouse. "The reality is that raising the $2 million needed to win is not a realistic possibility with less than four months left until the election."
Thus leaving us with Tommy Moore against the incumbent Republican Mark Sanford. (Corroborated by The State)
I like Mr. Moore's response:
Moore issued a statement saying, "I invite Sen. Knotts and all South Carolinians frustrated with Mark Sanford’s failed leadership to join me in building a better future for South Carolina families, one where respect, communication and working together bring real and measurable results."
