I have been consistently amazed recently by the Christian Wrong's ability to ignore one of the fundamental precepts of Biblical teachings: that we should help the poorest and neediest among us.
These right wing RepubliCons are constantly bitching and moaning about the "the estate tax," claiming that uber-rich millionaires are victims of the system in America, while at the same time doing everything they can to eliminate welfare programs that help the poorest and neediest Americans. Typical of their Upside Down Land view from the ceiling, these folks insist that it is actually the richest people in the country, who are the real victims in our society.
They are positively insistent that our government somehow get back "Christian Principles" when it comes to issues of abortion, denying equal rights to gays, & etc. However, when it comes to helping out people who are suffering in this country, due to lack of economic opportunity, they say: "Well that's not the business of government. Let the Church Handle It."
Which is it, Christian Wrongers? Should our society reflect Christian principals? Or is not the business of government to help out the neediest among us?
I'm no Christian, but it's my understanding that the single most repeated directive in the Holy Bible - writ large by God himself in his flowing white robes - is to HELP THE POOR. These hypocritical Pharisees are positively agog over the lack of "Christian Values" when it comes to issues like abortion & "the fags," but when it comes to people living in poverty, they get all:
"God helps those who helps themselves," which is a quote from Poor Richard's Almanac, not the Bible.
And that really makes me mad.
