Let’s cut Congress’s salary.
In the normal world when someone is so egregiously bad at their job that they, for example, let debt pile up to the point that bankruptcy looks like the only sane option, they would probably be fired. Well actually they would defiantly be fired. As long as they weren’t the CEO since I don’t know what it means when someone says you don’t have to work anymore but that their going to give you a ton of money.
Well, that’s what congress has done. I, and you will have to pay far more in taxes or gain less in services that will have to be made up by the private sector, which I and you will defiantly have the pay for too, in the future because of the enormous debt that congress and our illustrious president has seen fit to bestow upon us.
While congress dithers on important issues like feeding the troops enough and making sure that the president isn’t breaking the law with some radical new interpretation of whatever the Yoo fairy whispered into his ear, they find it very important to once again try and raise their own pay. I wish I had a job where I could say once a year, “You know, I’ll give myself a pay raise over and above the hundred grand I make a year.”
So while I’d be fired, they want more money. And since gerrymandering seems to be all the fad now days its a bit difficult to actually fire these fools. But I have a better idea.
So lets just cut their pay. I think a nice round figure would be good, something like 50%. Considering that we pay upwards of a billion dollars for the grand pleasure of having a congress which doesn’t do its job and puts me unwillingly in hock for the next couple hundred years I figure I need something back. We need to trim around the edges, as it were. Republicans will love this idea. They’ve been screaming about pay for performance for teachers so this is in the same vein. We’ll just say that when they start to do their jobs we’ll raise their pay. It’s all very simple.
Except for the whole part about actually getting the Senate to consider it.
