Today's
NYT has a piece on Joe Lieberman's out-of-state (and Republican) fundraisers. Sen.
Lieberman gets nearly 80% of his donations from out of state, the most of any US Senator. I thought it would be fun to look at Connecticut and beyond to see where Joe gets his money (and where he doesn't...ahem). Here is a list of cities and towns alphabetically in CT and out-of-state with their respective donations to Joe Lieberman 2006 campaign.

OK, I made those up. I can't find a city starting with X just like Joe Lieberman can't find Southbury, CT.
Yonkers, NY $5,500
Yantic, CT none
Zee end. My unofficial, unscientific* study puts the score at Connecticut 900 bones, everyplace else $494,349. This exaggerates Lieberman's lack of CT support a bit but the point is the same - Lieberman is so busy courting contributers across the nation that he has forgotten who he represents - Connecticut. Metro NY gives Lieberman twice as much Bridgeport, Los Angeles the same as Hartford, and most CT towns have zero big donors. Do people in these communities still have the ear of their Senator?
Joe Lieberman should have worried more about Higganum than Hannity, more about Ivoryton than Imus. Senator Lieberman is out of touch, out of tricks and come November he's going to be out of a seat. Joe Lieberman was elected to represent Washington, CT in D.C., not Washington, D.C. in Connecticut. He may have forgotten that fact but the voters are about to remind him.
*Utah isn't a city. I fudged that one. All figures from OpenSecrets.org ('05-06) - donations under $200 are not reported to the FEC. Queens and Yonkers figures include multiple zipcodes. I may be off a hundred here or there, my abacus is sticky. I lived in CT for more than 20 years and never heard of Fabyan, CT. A xebec is a three-masted pirate ship. Sean Smith is a wanker. Jane Hamsher is not.
