While the Middle East implodes, gas prices soar, and the federal budget bulges, tomorrow
Dick Cheney will take time to fund raise for
Gus Bilirakis, unimpressive son of outgoing Rep. Mike Bilirakis. Doesn't Cheney have a JOB to do?
I am somewhat surprised (not!) that Gus would want Dick Cheney to fundraise for him: Cheney is hardly the poster-boy for honesty and integrity: this is the draft-dodging, PlameGate, improper political and business ties to Enron, faulty prewar intelligence and the indicted Scooter Libby Cheney that we all know.
So, the challenger,
Phyllis Busansky, candidate for U.S. Congress (D) FL-09, is holding a Press Conference in response to Vice President Cheney's fundraising visit tomorrow. From a media advisory today:
Phyllis will discuss the lack of a national energy policy that benefits America's long-term economic interests and describe why she believes there must be a change in priorities. She will also express her concerns about the inability of the current administration to adequately plan for the future on either the domestic or foreign policy front.
The Florida Consumer Action Network will also be on hand to sponsor a sign waving to welcome Dick Cheney to Tampa:
VP Dick Cheney comes to Tampa TOMORROW MORNING, Friday July 21, to raise $$$ for Mike Bilirakis' son Gus in his campaign to succeed his dad in Congress.
[Join FCAN] To get national social issues into media coverage of the visit and connect them to Bilirakis & Cheney in the public eye.
FCAN will provide yellow & black signs that read "Hands Off My Social
Security" and "Fix Bush's Part D Disaster", courtesy of Americans
United for Change.
BTW, Gus has other friends: Newt Gingrich fundraised for him last month and Dennis Hastert comes next month.
Really, the administration's priorities are so appalling. Why aren't people noticing?
