The Fundraising reports are in for the Kansas Primary and things once again are looking very positive for the Kansas Democratic Party. If things continue on this path, statewide there should be a strong showing.
The
Topeka Capital Journal released the fundraising reports for statewide election campaigns for the State of Kansas. These are the numbers that stood out to me the most:
Governor
Kathleen Sebelius, Democrat -- $1,018,850 in contributions; $2,079,854 on hand
Jim Barnett, Republican -- $237,503 in contributions; $194,213 on hand
Ken Canfield, Republican -- $196,233 in contributions; $6,536 on hand
Robin Jennison, Republican -- $112,680 in contributions; $56,736 on hand
Note: Only including top three Republican fundraisers
Attorney General
Paul Morrison, Democrat -- $659,635 in contributions; $764,839 on hand
Phill Kline, Republican* -- $314,506 in contributions; $418,491 on hand
This is exciting news for the State of Kansas. Especially the fact that the Attorney General race is of huge importance.
The article also points out this tidbit of information on the political party fundraising situation:
The Kansas Republican Party raised $73,000 from Jan. 1 to July 20 and had roughly $39,000 left in the bank.
The state Democratic Party, meanwhile, raised $561,000 with $212,000 still on hand.
So what should we take from all this. As many previous diaries have stated there has been a definite split within the GOP in Kansas, with the Moderates moving over to the Democratic Party. Granted the Democratic Party in Kansas isn't "Liberal" per say, but it is a moderate group of individuals who understand what responsible government is for, to help people rather to hurt people.
The Conservative Republicans in Kansas will have to have a hard time once again defending why they were not able to fundraise in such a "red" state. This is just another indication that the tides are shifting in the State of Kansas and following the money trail sure shows that is not a lie.
