Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) reported more than $10 billion in second quarter profits, beating Wall Street expectations thanks largely to soaring oil prices. Security funds wasted
The Homeland Security Department has wasted a fortune in the rush to tighten the nation's defenses against terrorism after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, according to a bipartisan congressional report. Audits found that 32 department contracts worth a total of $34 billion "experienced significant overcharges, wasteful spending, or mismanagement." Lawmakers said that a boom in fast, no-bid deals combined with a shortage of trained contract managers opened the system to abuse. (The Washington Post, free registration required)

WASHINGTON - Three U.S. senators have called on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to account for 8.8 billion dollars entrusted to the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Iraq earlier this year but now gone missing.
Sigh. Something is on the match. Our dollars. Going to Bush and friends 9 digit offshore tax-sheltered bank accounts. What a horrible, demoralizing, criminal, arrogant, infantile, sheer ASSHOLE administration we own in this country. Have we a shred of shame or pride any more?
