Dear Congressman Bilbray,
Thank you for the literature you sent me this week. I'm glad to have a Congressman who finally gets it.
Former Congressman Cunningham represents the worst kind of Republican - indeed the worst kind of politician. Politicians and others in government, such as Jack Abramoff, Ralph Reed, Bob Ney, Tom Delay, William Jefferson - maybe even George W. Bush and Dick Cheney - are really out of touch. I believe they suffer from a corruption of the mind - a corruption that needs to be rooted out. That's why I'm glad that, since your election, you made it your number one issue. These folks aren't tough on illegal immigration. With your help, Congress will stop illegal immigration.
A buddy of mine, currently in Iraq, sent me an email the other day. Although illegal immigration is a high priority in his mind, you can imagine he has other worries. That is why he was heartened to find out your position on the Mt. Soledad Veterans War Memorial. Although things are going well over there, my friend has had the opportunity to ponder his mortality. It's a shame other cities haven't erected huge memorials honoring their communities' current and impending war casualties, and the faiths these heroes practiced. It is also a shame the memorial was ever in danger in the first place. My buddy is encouraged to know you'll take up the fight to erect fylfots on publicly-owned land, in honor of other Jains who have so nobly sacrificed their lives for our righteous country.
Finally, you address improving our quality of life. Although illegal immigration and restrictions on publicly-supported fylfot displays definitely affect my quality of life, I'm not sure if you had other specific legislation in mind. However, I do believe you have already addressed this issue on the House floor. By voting to increase your salary, and voting against efforts to reign in Congressional spending (so-called "pork"), you have opened the door for more capital to be invested in your district. Given that you live here, you'll be sure to spend your increased earnings here in San Diego, where you live. America's poorest wage earners couldn't be happier either. As our economy during President Reagan's administration showed, these folks are affected the most by this kind of legislation, which directly addresses their income.
A final quality of life issue for Southern Californians is cheap gasoline. We in San Diego couldn't be more proud of the environment you're providing for easier oil exploration - a better environment for all of us. This is why your vote matters. I think that I speak for all of Carlsbad when I declare that, if oil is discovered off Tamarack Beach (near the Encina Power Plant - a major Carlsbad landmark, but since you live here, you're aware of that), I'd be honored by the construction of a new platform. Not only would it be a highly visible testament to your efforts for America's energy independence, I'm sure it'd make a great artificial reef and shelter for our seals and other wildlife. I'd even suggest your name be boldly attached to such a platform, in large letter, visible from the beach, so that our tourists (who would surely flock to the enhanced beaches in greater numbers) and coastal residents would know whom to thank for their vote.
Again, Congressman Bilbray, I thank you for your commitment to an improved quality of life, for your efforts stop to illegal immigration, and for your fight to protect our religious symbols on public land. I couldn't think of any other issues that are more pressing than those outlined in your brochure. Your efforts truly will, "make America a safer and more prosperous nation."
