I have to vent (or rant) for the first time on the site
I have watched for six years the a gigantic decline and deterioration of American society due to the arrogance, lies, incompetence, stupidity and senseless of our leaders - ALL of our leaders. And as I sit watch the widening of the problems in the Middle East - I cannot help but wonder, when are the American people going to really say as a society - we have had enough. In 1968 many Americans (especially those in their 20s) rose up and said something (albeit in a more violent way than it should be) - but at least they rose up. Today there are so many people comfortably driving around in their SUVs (which of course every fill up is a remittance to Iran, Saudi Arabia etc.) demonstrating that what is going on is really not important to them.
37% (or thereabouts) STILL think this president is doing a good job - that is over 100,000,000 people --- and many of these people will vote in November, and many of them will vote to keep the status quo! WTF - what is so appealing about what the Coke Head in charge is doing that will cause people to continue to vote to support - I wish someone would tell me
I live in the liberal oasis of Manhattan where you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who agrees with Bush or the Bush cabal. But Manhattan is not enough. Why are people in place like Oklahoma and Utah so hell bent on defending the actions of the Liar-In-Charge. Is his defense of anti- (gay marriage, stem cells research, flag burning, abortion, pick your ridiculous unimportant issue) THAT important that the collapse of American humanity and potential devastation of the planet from environmental and military destruction means nothing?
Where do I start?
Iraq --- Liar Liar pants on fire - in every way, shape and form - not just the non-existent WMDs. But the cost, the oil, the ease of victory, all the new governments will make a difference how WELL things continue to improve over there --- spin, spin, spin. And 37% still buy it. And of course the entire Arab world hates us. But since when has the Bush cabal ever preached anything other than "it is us or them." Also if you look carefully you really believe that Bush and Darth Vader actually believe that the oil under the sands of Arabia really belongs to us.
North Korea --- simple --- if they had oil, we would have troops parked in Pyongyang. Period
The media --- asswipes, period. They are supposed to inform us, right the misinformation, keep people on their toes, be the buffer. So until recently their complicity in the spin (hello News Corp, Time Warner, Viacom et al) has made a bad situation every worse. They have to "get" the guest, they need to put shitheads like Coulter and O'Reilly on the air - they need ratings rather than accuracy. They should hold their collective heads in shame - thank god for blogs for at least SOME way to get information out --- unfortunately not on the mass level that broadcasting or radio can.
Congress --- Lemmings, spineless, greedy and feckless. Even the opposition cannot muster enough courage to oppose when they know they should - what are they worried about? Allegedly 63% of the country doesn't support the policies of the Decider-in-charge. Is the fear of being labeled "traitor" that overwhelming that it freezes the brain. I will say it - Bush sucks and I do not support any of his policies. Call me a traitor.
Stem Cells --- Bush and the religious lunatics have this god-ordained bugaboo about using cells (these are cells not people) in research to potentially cure diabetes, Parkinsons, spinal cord injuries et al. But they have NO problems watching innocent Iraqis and Lebanese die. Hey, once you are born you are on your own.
Minimum wage bill --- you have to be kidding - if the American public lets the House of MisRepresentation get away with this there really is NO hope for this country. Minimum wage is a big fucking $200+ week - try living in Manhattan on that - try living in a sewer. BUT attaching the cut in estate taxes has to be an all time low, even for asswipes like Boehner, Blunt and company.
In my 48 years on this planet I have never been so ashamed of my country and my government. But I am even more ashamed of our society and population that allows this to go on. Even Nixon's foibles (and I remember that era very well) - are not nearly as bad as what Bush and Condi and Rummy and Cheney have inflicted on us. I know we have 2 more years of this - but at this rate we are so fucked.
End of rant - I would go on but I have to drive to Bloomies in my SUV and buy my latte (snark)
