Today, the Florida Supreme court gave away
145 Billion dollars of tax payer money to big Tobacco, as explained
here. Why? Because they found that it was an 'excessive' punishment for a industry who's only function in society is to poison the citizenry
.
Now, before anyone gets angry: I'm an ex smoker, and I
liked smoking. It's cool, it's soothing, and sometimes, late on a rainy night, it's the perfect complement to loneliness. This diary is
not about taking away people's right to smoke: you can smoke like a chimney for all I care.
But here's the truth: it'll kill ya. And if it didn't kill your grandfather, it sure as hell killed one of his friends.
No, this diary is about the Florida Supreme court deciding that the citizenry of this county does not have the right to regulate, punish, and curb industries that do that citizenry harm. To be honest, I just don't understand how they would rationalize this. Can someone please explain it to? Using little words?
