note, written last night.
Now I know we don't talk about music here, but here is a musical figure who means so much to me, because he was more than that. Jerry Garcia died August 9th, 1995, due to complications from sleep apnea, and repeated drug use.
But he was a progressive man, a man who inside had a heart of gold, who was fair, who supported labor unions, who did what was right for his group and what was right for his fans.
Unlike a Joe Lieberman, Garcia wouldn't jeopardize his own group just based on his own, petty, personal interests. What Lieberman is doing by running as an independent, is exactly the opposite of what Jerry would do. And his band mates knew that, so after this day 11 years ago, they stopped. They didn't go on touring as the Grateful Dead (they have done some tours as "The Dead" leaving out the Grateful out of respect to Garcia.)
Garcia was for protecting the environment, for labor unions (wouldn't cross a picket line, even to play a show), he was the man! Progressive, kind and generous.
So, like the other members of the Grateful Dead did, the DSCC put the past behind them today and out of respect to Ned Lamont, who some are forgetting WON, endorsed him today.
So my main message is that Garcia was an exemplary man who should be a model for the "right kind of person". Behind his drug use, he was a kind man, who never took to much credit or too much power. Lieberman has taken to much power here, he is being egotistical. So LIEberman, be like Jerry, be respectful, be courteous, have a little less ego, and drop out.
