Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District election is going to be one of the most important in the country. A traditionally Republican district, it is an open seat which this year could go either way. On the Democratic side, the most liberal, progressive, and intelligent candidate is Jamie Wall. With a month to go, his campaign may finally be catching on.
Today, in Green Bay, President Bush is here to raise money for Republican Congressional candidate John Gard by hosting a $10,000 per table fundraiser.
In the meantime, Jamie Wall's campaign is very excited by some recent local positive press and the beginning of their TV ad campaign. They spent today distributing literature to 5,000 homes. I just got back from participating in the lit-drop, and believe me, people out there are very anti-Republican and ready for a change.
Jamie Wall was the first candidate in this race to call for Rumsfeld's resignation, and he is the ONLY candidate calling for the removal of our troops from Iraq. He is the ONLY candidate calling for universal health care. He has been endorsed by Congressman David Obey!!!!!
Check out Jamie's brand new TV ad. Believe me, KOS readers will love it.
Today, in Madison's "Capital Times", a columnist compared Jamie to Ned Lamont:
And what of the state's big-ticket congressional race the fight to replace Republican Mark Green in northeast Wisconsin's politically competitive 8th District? Of the three Democratic contenders, newcomer Jamie Wall, who has earned strong backing from Obey, seems to be delivering the strongest anti-war message. Iraq's the top issue on Wall's list of concerns as it is for most Americans, according to recent polls.
Bluntly critical of the Bush administration, Wall says, "the invasion of Iraq was a mistake. Our troops have performed admirably under difficult circumstances, but their civilian leadership has failed them." And he says, as Lamont did in Connecticut, "we need a new direction and a timeline for withdrawal of our troops from Iraq."
Wall's being outspent by wealthy physician Steve Kagen and former Brown County Executive Nancy Nusbaum, who has the backing of Emily's List. Both of his primary opponents are attractive enough candidates. Wall's behind, but, like Lamont, he's a smart, articulate candidate with a reasonable amount of campaign money. In the month between now and the primary, if Wall makes his opposition to the war a more central focus of his candidacy, he might yet have a chance to make a mark in this race.
Jamie Wall deserves your help and support. His primary opponents consist of an establishment Democrat who was going to run as a Republican the last time this seat was open, and a millionaire doctor who does not have much of a grasp of the issues. If Jamie Wall wins this seat, he will be able to keep it for a long time. His opponents would not.
