MyDD points out that the Millennials carried Lamont over Lieberman, here:

I will ask the same question here, but with a different point. Because this question leads to the possibility that in fact the change in the electorate is part of what is making being partisan so effective.
Looking at the study of generations, here is the important point:
The Internet Generation or the Millennial Generation (born 1982-2???) according to the Strauss-Howe model this should be an outer-driven, "civic," morally complacent generation which will institutionalize many of the ideals of the previous generations.
If you look at the previous two CIVIC generations as labeled by Strauss you have the following:
G.I. Generation (1904-1924) was an outer-driven, "civic" morally complacent generation which institutionalizes many of the ideals of the previous generations.
1.throughout their lives, America's confident and rational problem-solvers
2.high achievers in war, peace, science, business, community life
3.cleaned up the squalor and decay left by previous generations (X and 00's have to do that)
4. Superman the most enduring comic strip character, symbolizing unstoppable energy
5. valued outer life over inner life
6. traditional sex role and family life attitudes, (let's hope not)
7. child centered homes (let's hope so)
8. received many advantages in education, health, financing for homes and businesses, etc. (not likely given the mess we have)
9. growth of the scouting movement (go girl scouts!!)
10. most affluent generation of the 20th century (make that, indebted)
11. most upbeat or "copacetic" generation of their time
12. this-worldly, declining interest in religion
OK this is really long, so to look at the others check here:

indeed indictes that the generation that voted Lamont in will have crisis to deal with. This time it seems likely to be global warming.
For the first time, this will be an American generation dealing with crisis 500BILLION dollars in debt. That will make a terrible difference.
But this is reason for hope - that another civic generation is rising.
