After a recent
spate of opinion polls showing Bush at 40% approval, a reasonable question was "Is Bush slowly rebounding from his historically significant suckitude?"
Those paying close attention to these things know that Bush's fortunes have gone up and down from week to week since the beginning of his reign administration -- but after the big 9/11 elevator ride, mostly "Going down!"
There have been occasional upticks for those blue-plate specials of testosteroni, such as invasions, captures of funny-looking foreign leaders, sham elections. But each successive bump has been shorter -- and shorter-lived.
And speaking of bumps: latest news & analysis below.
Yes, Bush's numbers have looked like a ride at Six Flags, made especially easy to visualize through the efforts of
Prof. Pollkatz:
During the past few months, an uncharacteristic lack of profoundly stupid public shenanigans has contributed to a steady (and distubingly quick) rise in Bush's popularity.
Not only did this lull in lunacy deny us further tastes of two-flesh -- only one major poll, one time, put him at 29% -- but it hinted that maybe his handlers had finally found a new fuse for their malfunctioning popularity sump-pump.
Tonight's poll news is a very pleasant jolt, especially during a day in air-terra-land, after a day of "evil-Lamont-Democrats" meme mania: Bush still blows.
First of all, the latest Fox/Opinion Dynamics poll shows Bush's popularity stuck at 36%, exactly the same as their previous (July 11-12) survey. Disapproval is actually up to 56%, the highest Fox has found (although representing only a questionable 3-point change).
Second, the same poll asked questions about favorability ratings. More good news, unless your name is Bush! The Preznit's favorability rating is down to 39%, the lowest ever on their survey, which unfavorability is up to 56%, the highest they've ever recorded.
The generic ballot question shows a 4 point drop for the GOP and a 6 point pickup for the Democrats, who now lead 48-30. An 18 point gap, again a new high on a Fox survey (as far as I can tell)!
Finally, in the innie-vs.-outie battle, challengers beat incumbents 46:21. A bad year to be the party in power, I'd say.
It's no wonder that Republicans are running from Bush, who's still succeeding in his valiant struggle to remain politically dead.
