Browsing on MSNBC's main page I found a link that actually said, "Ron Popeil says deep-fried pickles are the next big thing" I'm not making this up.
In the story, Culinary Entrepreneur and Infomercial Extraordinnaire Ron Popeil reveals whats in the future of cooking innovation:
INTERVIEWER: "What are you working on now?"
RON: "Two weeks ago, I had lunch in Santa Barbara and was served fried dill pickles coated in flour and cornmeal. So I went back to my new product, a deep fryer that (was originally designed to do) a 16-pound turkey in less than an hour, and went to the supermarket. I bought half a dozen jars of dill pickles and fried them. They were delicious."
While not the most visually appealing food item, Popeil is the man responsible for inventions such as the Veg-O-Matic and the Showtime Rotisserie. The 71-year-old Popeil has been doing this for decades, making 2 billion dollars in sales. When Ron Popeil says deep-fried pickles are the way to go, then they are the next big thing.
Side Note: Popeil bears a resemblance to Mitt Romney, doesn't he?
