"Frankly, those who view this politically, shame on them," Coleman said, as he sat at a table on the theater's renovated second floor next to DeWine, who is less than 12 weeks from the toughest election of his Senate career.

The Mayor of Columbus, Ohio has reached out across party lines to work wtih Republican Senator Mike DeWine in an effort to obtain government funds to redevelop a landmark theater. In everyday government action, this move by Democrat Mayor Michael Coleman would seem rather routine. However, Mike DeWine is facing a tough re-election bid where any issue could swing the campaign. Considering this, Coleman's actions are a slap in the face to Democrats in the Buckeye State.

How dare Mike Coleman say "shame on us" who read politics into this bipartisan venture. Mr. Coleman, whose state ambitions were wrecked when his wife was arrested for DUI this past winter, would feel slighted had any Democrat worked with an opponent of his in such a crucial election. The Ohio Senate seat is vital to Democratic efforts to take back control of the Senate and all Democrats should be united in this effort.
I hope Ohio Democrats remember this when Coleman seeks re-election to his current post.
