Forget Tester, Casey, Santorum, Allen, Webb, Cantwell, and all the rest. They aren't important. The most important race this election cycle is the Lieberman race!
As you can tell by looking back over the past few weeks of front page articles, the Lieberman race dominates 50% of front page stories, and almost an equal percent of diaries. Here, we're all-Joe all-the-time!
And when the media sees our relentless Joe-focus, they help nationalize our potent message of a liberal left versus a conservative left. That's sure to play wonders in Ohio, Montana, and Missouri!
Some doofuses argue that we should be focusing on races that will actually result in a change in command in the Senate. To those people I say: bosh!
Sure we could be focusing on beating back Santorum, who is now closer than ever to re-election. Or, sure, we could focus on nipping the bud that is George Allen, helping to limit his 08 chances. Or, sure, we could change the media meme to one that focuses on the GOP, rather than elevating Lieberman's rabid (and effective) attacks against his own (former) party.
But we won't do that! No siree!
There is principle at stake here! And just like when many of us voted for Nader in 2000, we do this because there are larger more important things at stake! Sure, yeah, a Dem senate would be nice to counterbalance JP Stevens retirement from the Supreme Court next year. Or, yeah, a Dem senate would be great for heading off Bush's picks. But, you know what, it's about more than that. It's about teaching Lieberman a lesson!
Thanks, and remember, even if you are in Tennessee or Nevada, it should be ALL JOE ALL THE TIME!
P.S., Oh yeah, don't forget about the other guy in the Lieberman race... what's his name again... oh yeah, Lamont.
