CNN is reporting that the Connecticut Secretary of State has certified that Joe Lieberman has enough signatures to qualify for the ballot in November and to run on a third party ticket.
Additionally, many local labor unions in New Haven have officially endorsed Lieberman and support his bid.
More on the flip.
Despite attempts by others to keep Lieberman off the ballot, the CT Secretary of State now says Joe can run as a third party candidate and will be on the ballot.
This begs the question of whether he still is a Democrat, and, if not, what ramifications will this have. I won't hold my breath waiting for Harry Reid or others to take a hard line against Lieberman.
But there is significant movement going on in the labor circles in Connecticut where several local labor unions in New Haven will now support Joe. These unions include food and commercial workers union, the communications workers union, the Teamsters, as well as carpenters, pipefitters, firefighters, laborers, and the buildings trades.
Link.
This is important because I think it foreshadows the fact that Lieberman will be getting the AFL-CIO endorsement as well.
What I don't get is why local labor is supporting Joe considering his votes for NAFTA and CAFTA. He is only a marginal friend to labor.
Hopefully, these endorsements won't be enough give the winning edge to Lieberman.
