I dream a lot. I mean, A LOT! And very vividly, too. To the point where they wake me up several times a night.
Last night I had a dream that I want to share with you. It's the first of its kind in my experience. Because it made little sense until later today (it was rather disjointed and spotty), I've elaborated courtesy of my own creativity.
I was standing in a line waiting to go into a room. I was a long way back from the door, and I wasn't even sure why I was there. Every few minutes someone would come out of the door I was waiting to enter. And more often than not, the person emerging punched the air with a closed fist. Sometimes they shouted things like "The storm is over!" or "I DID IT!"
The dream skipped ahead, apparently, because the next thing I knew, I too had my fist raised in triumph. And as I walked out of the building (having already visited that room, I guess), I saw hundreds of people around me with their fists raised to the sky. And that sky was utterly black with clouds. There was lightning and thunder and even a tornado in the distance (and we don't HAVE tornadoes in Seattle).
I just stood there for a few minutes. As more people gathered, the skies seemed to lighten a bit. Every so often someone (or a group of someones) would shout at the sky, fists waving. "I've had enough!" "You will NOT tear my world apart!" I don't even remember everything I heard. Most of it was just noise. Drumbeats. Clapping. Anger. But I could still see the tornado in the distance, and the lightning was close.
After a while, I looked around, and there were people as far as I could see. I seemed to be on a little rise, so I could look over the heads of some of the crowd, but I couldn't see where the crowd ended.
And then someone shouted "Enough!" And others started chanting it. "Enough...enough...enough!" The mob mentality took over and I started yelling, too. It felt good to yell. I must have been royally pissed off about something because I DON'T yell.
All of a sudden the sky cleared. The sun came out. The tornado was gone. Everyone started cheering. And I woke up.
I realized about 2:00 this afternoon, after a long slog through several spreadsheets running to well over a thousand rows, that I'd dreamed about November.
