Things like
this completely perplex me.
The estimates on Bush's Medicare (Medican't) plan now are up around 540 billion dollars. Drug testing programs in prisons are now getting cut while he simultenously talks about drug testing in schools. NCLB has succeeded in alientating a dozen states and countless school districts.
Yet, when so many conservatives are asked about Democrats, they cite the "Tax and Spend" mantra.
It's a fact of life that programs require money. So if the money isn't there, the program ends. The Administration has made it a point numberous times to tout a new big program to promote it's "compassionate conservatism", only to completely eviscerate said program once the news articles stop. The same President who said during campaign season that he would never deficit spend has succeeded in doing just that to the tune of 400+ billion dollars (of course, he didn't really mean that, he clarified that he would only defecit spend in the case of war, terrorism, or war/terrorism "related program activities").
The question has now become, how can we get out of this mess? The money we owe now will take upwards of 10 years to pay off, and now Bush wants the tax cuts made permanent, and more added to them.
More money has to come in so things can be paid for, taxes must be paid, spending must be cut, the bosses must stop skimming off the top. Of course, that requires a firm end to the culture of greed in which we have firmly entrenched ourselves.
So how do we take back the country while so many of the people being taken advantage of by the system (socially conservative but financially ignorant) continue to cite tired GOP dogma?
