Some of you may have seen
my diary yesterday about my plans to bring flowers and a letter of thanks to Senator Barbara Boxer's DC office.
In the end, I had a total of 88 signatures for the letter, including 3 people from Ohio and 14 from California.
Since there were some people who weren't able to get their names to me before I left, I'll be making another trip tonight. Anyone who wants to 'sign' the letter should email me at thankboxer AT myusername DOT com before 4:45 pm EST today.
I had to hoof it to make it over there before 6 - I had no idea how late the office would be staffed, and obviously there was no hope of getting through on the phone to ask. I brought with me a half dozen pink roses from the vendor on the corner near my office building. Fortunately for the roses, the security folks didn't insist on putting them through the x-ray machine.
In the front room of Senator Boxer's office there were three young women answering phones, who looked and sounded like they'd been through hell and back. The one at the second desk stood up when she saw me come in, and I handed her the flowers, which got a big smile. I told the staffer that I'd had nearly 90 emails in 3 hours from people who wanted to add their thanks to mine, because we all appreciated what Senator Boxer had done that day.
She thanked me several times and, since they seemed utterly swamped and overwhelmed, I left. I'll be back, though, because I've at least 16 more names that didn't come in in time to be added to yesterday's letter.
See my previous diary for the text of the letter, and email if you'd like to be added!
