Wisconsin was lucky enough be to host Focus on the Family today. In the midst of state's debate over whether to permanently ban marriage and civil unions for gay couples, Dobson's organization invited Christian leaders to an all day training session in Milwaukee. What did the session include?
According to the group's
invitation, topics included "debunking the `born gay' myth" and "ministering to homosexuals and their family and friends."
It struck me as an odd tact to take in a swing state where amendment opponents are gaining ground through a more moderate approach so far.
But the fact that they're here at all is significant - this is the group's first appearance in Wisconsin's amendment fight. And I'm guessing it won't be their last.
It's obviously not looking good when Focus on the Family gets involved in Wisconsin, but maybe it speaks to the strong campaign amendment opponents are building. And maybe it's because they're seeing that Wisconsin really has a chance to vote no in November.
