First diary ...
Over the next two days, those folks in CT need to counter the corrupt Lanny Davis from his performance on "Meet the Press" ...
To start, the Lamont-Lieberman race is more than just about the war. It is about the heart and soul of the Democrat Party. It is about some of the same things that Paul Wellstone and Ralph Nader have talked about over the years.
In addition, while Lieberman has a stellar record on civil rights and some other things, over the last 12 or 13 years, he has been completely out of touch and frankly, sided with more bad things than good things.
Let's mention a few:
Lieberman was with Bush on the invasion of Iraq.
Lieberman was with Bush on the Bankruptcy Bill. This support will potentially hurt millions of poor folks - both Dems and Republicans. It is hideous legislation.
Lieberman was with Bush on the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, and other Constitution-shredding crap.
Lieberman was with Bush's Supreme Court nominees.
Lieberman was with Bush on tax cuts.
Lieberman was with Bush on CAFTA, and all of Clinton's bad trade deals - like NAFTA, GATT/WTO, and PMFN Trade Status to China. This support has put a lot of folks - millions - out of work. Many of these millions were Union people and Democrats!
To say that in 2005 Lieberman was with the Dems 90 percent of the time doesn't mean jack when you compare it to 12 years.
But let's get back to Clinton for a second.
Lieberman was with Clinton's bad legislation too: The 1996 Telecom Bill which crushed indie media, the anti-terrorism bill of 1996 - a precursor to the Patriot Act, HR 666 - which gutted the 4th Amendment, the Crime Bill, etc. ad nauseum.
In other words, it isn't just about Iraq and, Holy Joe has to go.
