As everybody knows, Joe's campaign
web site contains the above message, though Hunter has
explained why the allegation of a DOS attack is implausible at best. Even if there
were such an attack, it's worth asking who benefits.
* Does Lamont gain? Hardly. Does anybody vote or not vote because of the presence or absence of a campaign web site on election day?
* Does Lieberman gain? Apparently, if he can milk the kind of victim sympathy that will jumpstart his go-nowhere (read: Joementum) independent campaign.
* Do Republicans benefit? You bet. If they can frame this as Democratic dirty tricks, then they can take a message nationwide and muddy the blazingly clear truth that the Republican Party is rotten to the core. If you can't clean up your own mess, it's helpful if you can spread the word that others are dirty too.
I'm not sure whether this is a Lieberman concoction in the Rove tradition or a Republican attempt to soil the Democratic bed. But it seems idiotic to suggest that it came from Lamont.
