The Democratic blog DailyKos announced today that it reached a milestone with the welcome addition of member number 100000. The Democratic site's membership swelled after the Lamont / Lieberman election in Connecticut one day prior. Labeled the 'Extreme Left' by critics, the blog has seen its ranks swell as more members of the public grow disenchanted with President Bush's Administration and seek ways to return to an America based on the Constitution and not the Unitary Executive theory.
The Internet (PRWEB) August 9, 2006 (PDT) -- The Democratic blog DailyKos announced that site membership exceeded one hundred thousand people today. The site, made famous by the Lamont / Lieberman primary, gained its newest member the day after the controversial Connecticut Senatorial Democratic Party primary election. While labeled as the 'Extreme Left' by Republican pundits, the blog has seen membership swell as the public grows increasingly disenchanted with President Bush's Administration and seeks ways to return to an America based on the Constitution and not run solely by the President.
One member, who goes by the alias 'Reality Bites Back,' sums up the feeling in the DailyKos community after the Lamont win: "The issue is not hating Bush at all, but LOVE for America. If Bush were just some spoiled alcoholic son of privilege clearing brush all day and getting sauced up by night while he blew his family fortune - NO ONE WOULD GIVE A SHIT. The fact that the very same mentality is blowing the future of America - the nation we love, is what we detest. WE LOVE AMERICA!!! We love the possibilities she offers, the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, the sense of adventure, hard-won freedom, fairness, respect, the grandeur of her wilderness, the character of her people, and most of all her unprecedented Constitution that has allowed her to be so strong for so long and recover from even the worst leaders criminal minds have ever put forth. WE LOVE AMERICA, and that is why we care enough to spend so much time and energy trying with ever fiber of our being to protect and preserve her from those who wish to exploit and threaten her. Even an incompetent President and his nefarious cronies."
Many Republicans and the media echoed the talking points supplied to them by the Republican party on Wednesday. Contrary to these exaggerations, the Democratic Party will not suffer defeat in November due to the influence of Liberal blogs such as DailyKos. While it may seem that DailyKos is something to be feared, candidates on both sides of the aisle should be concerned with the lowercase d -- As in democracy. The voting public, is rising up to meet the challenge of replacing an incompetent government, and learning what steps to take by visiting blogs like DailyKos.
Unlike many of the blogs that discuss Republican issues, much of the content of DailyKos is derived from its members, not just from entries written by the blog's owner, Markos Moulitsas Zúniga (Kos). Members are encouraged to discuss issues and to introduce issues of their own and to debate them with each other. This discussion makes it less like a simple opinion site than other political sites and contributes to the feeling of community within the blog.
The DailyKos welcomes their newest members to the community and congratulates Ned Lamont for his primary win on Tuesday.
