By now we have brainstormed many ways in which will communicate to Disney--a media icon that has decades of equity invested in each of our homes. From sending our Disney products back to their HQ, to burning and trashing them in from of TV, to boycotting all products from their sponsors, we are establishing our saliency...
...Key to this argument is stay non partisan. We acknowledge that the media over the years has been representing half truths, not completing the story as well as covering this current Administration in a more favourable light while Americans are sour. Should we voice our outrage from a leftist point of view, we will be playing into their game. We need to change the rules.
By positioning our anger as a Corporate Social Responsibility argument, we will transcend the political poison and force Disney's hands to be more responsible. When writing local affiliates to boycotting products, not only will those actions communicate our disdain, we also need to write those who we affect as to WHY we are taking these actions. Their brand will suffer from this Reputation Management nightmare.
Our message should be clear: in making our communication pay off, let's affect Disney's bottom line with this message-- as salient stakeholders we are holding you socially accountable by our actions, therefore you will be held socially responsible.
In small steps--in not purchasing Coke, changing our dell phone providers, sending Disney products back to them--we will undo the years of equity that they have built. For example, Shell had no idea that there were standing on an explosive issue when they decided to drop the Brent Spar oil platform into the Northern Atlantic, and they underestimated the positioning, strategy and strength of Greenpeace. End result was a loss in sales and a terrible reputation unfold in the media, something that still reverberates to this day that has permanently changed Shell's policy towards Corporate Social Responsibility.
