It's like a cult society.
The kool-aid drinking rabid Bush backers will believe in their master, their leader, in spite of direct and credible evidence to the contrary, they believe.
They believe Hussein and Bin Laden are one in the same, terrorists in arms, Arabic brothers that sort of meld themselves. If we can't get one, we'll be more than happy with the other. Sort of the same way the Father and the Son meld together as one on Sunday mornings.
They believe it when their leader tells them crazy, unsubstantiated lies; and when confronted with evidence that there are no weapons of mass destruction, and there never were any weapons of mass destruction, they find it within themselves to swallow the sorry and sniveling excuses offered by Rick Santorum that yes, there were WMD's and they have been found after all. It is the bedrock-like faith in the infallibility of the leader even in the presence of incontrovertible proof otherwise that truly astounds me, and leads me to believe the "backwash" of this country are behaving like members of a cult.
They believe their leader is truly a compassionate conservative although he is neither, and the truth of that is in his administration's dismal record. There is nothing compassionate in pre-emptive war without end and without justification. There is nothing conservative in record deficits, out of control spending, and expanding government.
The literal and traditional meanings of the word cult is derived from the Latin cultus, meaning "care" or "adoration", as "a system of religious belief or ritual; or: the body of adherents to same" Wikipedia
Is adoration too strong a word to use when describing the fanatical faithful followers of George W. Bush? I think not, at least not when describing the conversations I have with wing nuts in my circle of friends. I hear "He NEVER lied" and "You're just a Bush hater, that's why you think that".
Perhaps they're right, I'm a friggin black belt Bush hater. Every fiber of my being screams out to these people to just WAKE THE FUCK UP AND SEE WHAT'S GOING ON HERE!!
The only explanation is they are neck deep in cult fanaticism and do not know it. Here's a sample;
Yes, a lot of people in the US think that Iraq was involved in 9/11. In fact, many thought that the day after the attack, without any prompting from the administration. The notion that the administration is `pushing' this thought is not needed, there was a lot of distrust of Saddam and many who know the deep ties that Saddam has with terrorism and terror groups don't see it as a large leap. That doesn't mean there is any proof, but it doesn't mean there wasn't any tie nor does it make those who believe it to be stupid. I don't think that we should use it as a reason to do anything to Iraq, but there was a ton of reasons to invade Iraq without that or WMD so there is really little reason to fall back on it.
An otherwise intelligent gentleman wrote these words, he was apparently drinking Kool-Aid when both the President and the Senate Intelligence Committee refuted the ties between 9-11, Iraq, and Al-Quiada. But he continues to believe, stubbornly holding on despite the mounting tide of evidence against those beliefs.
It's like a cult wrapped up in some wierd, science fiction true believer syndrome.
