Well, the primary may be over, but the battle is just beginning. To all of my fellow Kossacks who helped with your postings, comments, and promotion of the WI-08 Dem race and Dr. Kagen, thank you. The results were tallied last night, and Kagen won pretty handily. At the time I'm writing this, he has 48% of the vote. The race was really for second place, but Jamie Wall came through to take the second slot with about 5% more than Nusbaum.
I'm glad Wall beat Nusbaum, I always thought she was going to be the easiest candidate to beat and I always thought Wall was a good candidate; a true liberal. It's great to see him getting on board with Kagen's campaign.
On the Republican side, John Gard beat Terri McCormick, grabbing 70% of the vote, which brings me to my next point. It's time to gear up for the November general, which is going to be a tough fight. It's rare for the national party to get involved in a primary race, but the RNCC made Kagen the target of a negative ad campaign a week before the primary. The ad was made by the same firm that produced the "Swift Boat" ads. They've reported over $180,000 to the FEC for ad production already. And who knows what other money they might have spent without us knowing. Clearly, these guys are scared of Kagen, and they're going to continue to try to take him out with more negativity.
The Kagen campaign has done a great job. They, and their supporters have come this far, but they have a long way to go, yet. Wisconsin Democrats need to unite and stand firm behind their candidate and their party. We can win this, we're on our way, but we need to be tough.
