A small group of 10 U.S. military families left on Saturday to
begin a peace
mission to Iraq. The group includes the family members of
slain U.S. soldiers and troops who are still on active duty in
Iraq. Fernando Suarez del Solar, whose son Jesus Suarez del Solar
was killed in Iraq, stressed that it is important for the Iraqis
to understand that not all Americans support Bush and his war.
"The enemy is not the people from America. The young boys
in Iraq only see the American flag on the uniforms. They see that
as the destroyer of their life and family. It's very important to
try to reach them."
The group will risk their own lives and travel by land from
Jordan into war torn Iraq where troops and civilians are being
killed basis. They raised money for the trip by asking for
donations and received the support of 25 members of Congress.
They will be carrying with them the letters from 2,000
American school children who want peace.
"We have a little more than 2,000 letters from American
children. The letters say, 'I like friendly relations and want
peace in your country"
