Today is Primary Day in Massachusetts! The three-way Democratic Primary for Governor between Deval Patrick (Clinton administration, Texaco/Coke executive), Tom Reilly (Attorney General), and Chris Gabrieli (businessman) will, after months of campaigning, be decided today. The winner will face Republican Kerry Healey in November, in what is sure to be a bruising election (Healey has already begun running attack ads). The Primary today takes on new importance, however, when we remember that Republicans have held the corner office in the State House for the past 15 years - in this supposedly blue state!
Patrick was once completely unknown, but has instituted and ran an impressive grassroots campaign and recent polls have given him the lead in the race. Gabrieli is close behind and Reilly, the "establishment" candidate, trails. It's important to note, however, that most polls have surveyed registered voters, and no one is quite sure who'll come out today to vote...which brings me to my main point: if you're registered in MA today, go out and vote!!
