I work for a very small, private, highly profitable company in the finance industry. This year the company started hosting an occasional speaker series as a morale booster. The first speaker was John Cleese and it was amazing. Tomorrow we've got President Jimmy Carter. (Yes, I'm not kidding about the profitability.)
There will probably be about 300-400 people in the room, and I expect that President Carter will give some sort of a talk, and hopefully questions will follow.
I'd like to ask him a question if I get the opportunity, and I'd like to engage your help to figure out what to ask ... follow me below if you want to help.
I've been toying with different possible questions since I learned about his appearance, and so far the best thing I can come up with is this:
Mr. President, earlier this year you posted several diaries on DailyKos.com (the most well known lefty blog) in which you spoke about your son's senate race and in which you answered questions from the rank and file members of the site. I also noticed that President Clinton recently met with a large group of bloggers in his Harlem office. I'm curious about your perception of the blogosphere and DailyKos in particular and whether you think that politicians see it as just another interest group or whether there's something more going on there.
I'm hoping to achieve two things with this question. First, it's been some time since he posted his diaries here, and I'm wondering how he felt about the whole experience. Second, I welcome the opportunity to mention DailyKos publicly in front of my entire office, which includes a large number of very rich persons who could potentially make a great addition to our donor base. Although the employees are mostly conservative, lately I've been seeing a lot more openness to our point of view and I'd love to cause a few swing on by and have their eyes opened up.
I will, of course, pronounce the name of the site correctly. (Rhymes with "dose" in case you're new here.)
Anyway, I assume that this diary won't be recommended, but I know that some of you will read it and I hope that you can offer me constructive criticism on my proposed question or even proffer up a better question for me. On the off chance it does get recommended, perhaps I'll ask the question that gets the most recommendations, although I reserve the right to edit or choose something else as I see fit.
Thanks for helping, and I'll post a diary tomorrow night or Thursday morning to report on the result. Again it probably won't be recommended, so remember to look for it or subscribe or something.
