Ah, Focus on the Family's psychotic leader was in the Iron City yesterday to speak to those infamous "values voters." An
article in the
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has some interesting nuggets about the wisdom the dear "doctor" - yeah, right - had for what was a pretty pathetic-sized audience.
Among them:
"We are at war in this country with an enemy who wants to destroy us," he said. He stressed that only a small minority of Muslims believe that their faith justifies violence, "but let's say 4 percent of Muslims want to kill us ... . That's 48 million people who want to bring us to our knees."
More Christian values on the flip...
The article also dutifully reports that Focus on the Family isn't legally allowed to endorse specific candidates. Although that didn't prevent Dobson from making one very general - although qualified - endorsement:
"I have flat-out been ticked at Republicans for the past two years," he said, to some applause from a crowd that arena security estimated at around 3,000.
However, he said, "This country is at a crisis point. Whether or not the Republicans deserve the power they were given, the alternatives are downright frightening."
The quote about those 4 percent of Muslims who might want "to kill us" - and by "us," I presume he means born-again Christians who hate gays, like to kill Muslim infidels in video games, and think torturing innocent citizens, as long as their not Christians, is just fine - came in the context of what would happen if Republicans were voted out of power.
The attendance for the event sucked. Even though they split the 17,000-seat Mellon Arena in half with a curtain, meaning they were making room for at least 8,500 people, only an estimated 3,000 showed up (and that number came from Focus on the Family, so one might suspect it was actually significantly less).
Event organizers said it was scheduled for Pittsburgh because of the allegedly tight Senate race between Santorum and Casey. Hmmm... something tells me this little event isn't gonna save lil' Ricky's ass.
