I was most heartened to see this article in the Chicago Tribune today.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/...
So much of what Dems and we Kossacks rail against is produced by Right Wing, Religious Conservative, Republicans - or folks who make themselves up to be that way (I'm thinking specifically of Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin due to recent posts here at DK, but there are plenty of others y'all know).
Anyway, I read so many posts by Kossacks who are rather more moderate Democrats. And you have to wonder how far a jump it is from what they believe to what a moderate Republican believes sometimes. This article might capture it well, for today anyway.
I understand quite well the differences between Dems and Republicans - but I, like folks in the article, don't want to see devisiveness of the kind Coulter/Malkin/O'Reilly and IMHO our current administration espouse. I'd rather us have our differences on capitalism, public aid and foreign policy meet in a good middle place. Something we can all stomach, vs. our current endless war, class division/the rich are getting way freakin' richer while the rest of us are getting screwed, and our Follow us or Fuck off foreign policy tactics.
So read up. Find yourself a moderate today - Dem or Repub - and find some common ground. Compare your candidates. Natch, try to get them to vote Dem, since there are soooo many crappy Repubs available to trounce right now. But communication opens doors, or whatever platitude you care to insert here.
