A column in today's
St. Pete Times highlights a disturbing GOP strategy for avoiding the issues:
The League of Women Voters produces televised forums for candidates in every local race in the county. The forums prove informative, and participating candidates report favorable feedback.
The key phrase here is "participating candidates." These days some candidates are avoiding all public forums.
Three politicans were all mentioned as having opted-out of debates: First, it was two Hillsbourough (FL) County Commisioners in the General: County Commisioner Jim Norman and County Commisioner Ronda Storms. Now, GOP candidate in the FL-09 House race Gus Bilirakis is refusing to debate the Dem candidate Phyllis Busansky. This is no County Commioner's race. This is for a seat in the US Congress. Can they really get away with it?
