And not just Dems, but Progressive Dems!! Crazy?
A proposal to help conservatives make their case and our very own October surprise unfolds below.
Have you ever wondered what the GOP platform and the teachings of Jesus have in common? Me too! A few weeks ago I uploaded a video to YouTube titled "GOP Most Dangerous American."
http://www.youtube.com/...
In it I make the case that Jesus was a liberal -- a case that is very easy to support, although I don't actually support it in the video. I just assert it. I had a few comments from people who were apparently conservative Christians. I attempted to get them to connect the teachings of Jesus to the conservative message. They either couldn't or they wanted to keep the connections a secret. One commenter said that it has to do with personal responsibility, but I don't think Jesus was walking the countryside talking about personal responsibility. Do you? If so, I have not heard about those teachings yet.
As Christianity is nothing without Jesus, it surprises me that conservative Christians can't even make the connections. Jesus, it seems, is irrelavant to the conservative Christian message. But I don't think most of them realize that. So how do we turn the light on?
Here is my plan to donate $500,000 to the GOP (money I don't have, by the way, in case you are wondering) for the best essay connecting the GOP platform to the teachings of Jesus
Contest Rules
Two prizes will be donated: One to the GOP and one to the Dems, and each prize is $500,000 in the name of the person who writes the best essay describing the connection between the platform of the party (GOP or Dem) and the teachings of Jesus. I have in mind two separate contests conducted from one web site.
This contest has some incentives and disincentives built into it to make sure it works as planned:
Anyone who wants to write an essay can. But, the prize will only be awarded if there are say, one hundred (I'm not sure what the right number is) essays to choose from. The incentive is to get people to think about it and participate. The disincentive is for people to write mean-spirited, disingenuous essays and submit them to the contest of the opposing party. They don't want to help the other party to reach their one hundred essays.
Anyone who wants to vote for the best essay can. But the prize will only be awarded if there are, say, ten thousand votes cast. Again, the incentive is for people to participate. The disincentive is for people to vote for sham essays in the contest of the opposing party because they don't want to help that party to reach ten thousand votes.
This could be publicized on the radio and Internet, noting that progressive democrats will donate $500,000 to the GOP. I would think that would perk up a few ears!
As I noted, I do not have the money or expertise to make this happen -- I just have the idea. If you like it, please help me make the rec list. That's the only chance this idea has.
Conservative Christians realizing that they have abandoned the teachings of Jesus -- that's our October surprise for the GOP!!
