I'm thrilled to see Glenn's book
How Would a Patriot Act start off real strong on presales on Amazon (#2 overall as of this post). It really is a great book.
Digby (who should also write a book) writes:
I have had the privilege of reading Glenn Greenwald's new book, "How Would A Patriot Act" and I can't recommend it highly enough. It is not just a litany of the gross abuse of power, the novel unconstitutional theories or the excessive fear mongering of the Bush years, although he lays them all out in frightening simplicity. This book is about how these actions debase our national character.
John Dean wrote the following blurb:
Glenn Greenwald has assembled a devastating bill of particulars against the Bush and Cheney administration's insistence on operating outside the rule of law. He has gathered solid information and marshaled a litany of abuses of power that make Richard Nixon's imperial presidency look timid. All thinking Americans must answer How Would A Patriot Act? this coming election, and those who ignore what Greenwald has to say act at our collective peril.
And Glenn himself writes about why he wrote the book and the all-to-familiar (to me) difficulties of the necessary self-promotion required of those of us who decide to eschew corporate publishing houses for the realm of the indies.
The blogosphere will be the new farm system for new and exciting progressive voices. I'm happy to have kicked things off with CTG (along with Jerome, of course), but I'm even happier that we're not going to be the last. Glenn's books is almost out. Hopefully we'll see more progressive bloggers follow.

I'll be in San Francisco on Monday, May 1st, and will be doing a free lunch event with Working Assets.
"The program includes a free lunch available starting at 11:30 a.m. Please plan to arrive early as all guests go through the security procedures of the building, which require picture ID. Due to heightened security procedures, only people who have responded by name in advance will be able to attend. 101 Market Street, First Floor, San Francisco. To RSVP, call 415/369-2150 and leave your name, the names (spelled out) of anyone coming with you, and a phone number we can use to contact you if necessary."
That will likely be the last event in San Francisco. I'll probably do a couple in the East Bay eventually, but if you're on the wrong side of the bay (you know, the dark, cold, foggy side), this might be it.
Update: Let's not forget another great book by a blogger -- Hell in a Handbasket -- Tom Tomorrow's latest compilation of his best-of-class This Modern World political cartoons. And unlike Glenn's book which is currently only available for presale on Amazon, this book is available at your favorite independent bookstore.
