George Bush could have known about Bin Laden,
if he had only read the 2000 Democratic Party Platform!
So......
In the current flap about Clinton, Rice, media, who did what to "get" Bin Laden, all you need to do is:
Read and compare the party platforms from 2000!

More data on the GOP and Dems below the fold.
And, an action link, too:
Bottom Line:
--The Democrats included Bin Laden by name and went into detail about the threat along with action plans.
--The Republicans were still focused on pushing for the ill-conceived Cold War Era "Star Wars" technology.
As a demon researcher and stickler for details.....My advice is always to study politcal parties' campaign platforms because it is a rich source of real information.

"GOP and Collapse of Civilization" I've been working on "letter to editor" material on this subject, based on GOP strategist Kevin Phillips' books, as reviewed by Michio Kakutani in The New York Times:
Kevin Phillips identifies something to watch out for when considering politics--the _universal principles_in the history of civilization that the following five danger signs indicate
"a power already at its peak and starting to decline":
[I say: Brace yourself....]
". . . . widespread public concern over cultural and economic decay," along with social polarization and a widening gap between rich and poor; 2) "growing religious fervor" manifested in a close state-church relationship and escalating missionary zeal; 3) "a rising commitment to faith as opposed to reason and a corollary downplaying of science"; 4) "considerable popular anticipation of a millennial time frame" and 5) "hubris-driven national strategic and military overreach" in pursuit of "abstract international missions that the nation can no longer afford, economically or politically." Added to these symptoms, he writes, is a sixth one, almost too obvious to state: high debt, which can become "crippling in its own right."
Curiously, I remember the late, great Alistair Cooke speculating on the exact same topic in his TV series about America c. 1970!
