Ok, I'm out of the courtry, so I'm a little behind in US news. But like a dutiful Kossack, I check in here, on and off to make sure I'm current. This morning, I start reading articles that make it seem like the McCain's Torture Bill passed. Unable to really believe it I go to CNN for confirmation. However, the only thing I can find was this article.
Senate OKs bill for detainee trials, interrogations http://www.cnn.com/...
Since this article seemed the only one that could possible be it so I read it and as I read my jaw dropped.
I can't believe it!
The focus of the article is that the bill is provide a method for trying terrorists. Not once does it mention the word torture. The closest the article get is saying
However, some Democrats said it left the door open to abuse, violating the U.S. Constitution in the name of protecting Americans.
and this
While Democrats warned the bill could open the way for abuse, Republicans said defeating the bill would put the country at risk of another terrorist attack.
See how fair and balanced they are being. Democrats think that something bad might happen if we pass it and Rebulicans say that if the bill doesn't pass we get another 9/11. After all both sides have equally valid points of view, right?
By totalling ignoring the fact that this bill authorizes the President to torture, and the fact that we know he already is torturing people, so this isn't purely academic, CNN has helped enable torture.
Its hard for people to protest if they don't know what is in the bill. Looks like the media is going to allow the Repugs to spin torture.
Unfucking believable!
In other news, we are sending armed gun boots into the Great Lakes to protect us from Canda, and in the process violating a treaty from 1812. Really that isn't surprising since the rule of law no longer applies in this country.
http://www.cnn.com/...
Canadian sources (namely the other intern whose from Canada) add the detail that we fired a whole bunch of lead bullets into the Lakes. The Lakes are the sources of drinking water for thousand of Canadians and Americans.

I'm going to keep one eye on the skyies from now on looking for the fourhorseman...
