Introduce your friends and family to Jim Webb... via YouTube!
I'm rapidly becoming a big fan of YouTube, since it gives us the power to introduce people to candidates for office, both in terms of positives and negatives. The infamous "macaca" remark from George Allen became infamous largely due to its presence on YouTube -- which allowed media types to see for themselves what had happened, and thus prevent Allen's spinmeisters from succeeding in explaining it away.
But YouTube also
gives us the power to introduce our friends and relatives to candidates we support by way of 'viral video' -- which can be particularly important when a candidate doesn't have near-universal name recognition to begin with. That's why I'm posting this diary -- to encourage you to send your friends and relatives in Virginia the links to the videos of the speeches from Jim Webb, Judy Feder, and Andy Hurst from yesterday's Labor Day kickoff rally, which I filmed, and Eric from
RaisingKaine reformatted to upload to YouTube. (I haven't been able to link directly to the videos from YouTube, but the pictures on this page link to the YouTube URL's for the videos.)
Part I -- Jim Webb
This was a great speech -- and well worth forwarding to friends, some highlights:
"This Administration, and people like George Allen who have supported it blindly, threaten to disrupt the very fabric of what we are as Americans."
The Bush administration has "the reverse Midas touch," and "every single foreign policy situation they have touched, it has screwed up."
Webb also pointed out the Republicans' strategy of trying to "take peoples' attention off of REAL problems" -- by getting people distracted by hot button social issues.
Part II -- Jim Webb
Judy Feder (running against Frank Wolf in VA-10)
Andy Hurst (running against Tom Davis in VA-11)
After you've watched the speeches, please consider forwarding the links around. This is free advertising, and while Webb's fundraising has picked up since the primary, he's not going to be able to spend as much as George Allen, so Jim Webb and other Democrats can benefit from the actions of what he likes to refer to sometimes as his "ragtag army" -- people like us.
All you have to do is click the following link and go to the 'share video' feature at YouTube:
Tell your friends and family about Jim Webb
Only 139 people have watched it thus far -- with your help, we can push that number way up -- let's see if we can get 100,000 people introduced to Jim Webb in the next week.
I know that not everybody can donate more money to Webb's campaign, but everyone can take the time to send a few emails to introduce others to Jim Webb. If you know people in VA-10 and VA-11, you can also introduce them to Judy Feder and Andy Hurst, respectively. It only takes a couple of mouse clicks and keystrokes.
