My wife, son, dog and I decided to take a Sunday walk along a trail that links Lexington, Virginia, with neighboring city Buena Vista. We thought we were going for a walk, but we entered -- "The Felix Zone."
We had hiked the trail starting in Lexington and we wanted to pick up the trail from Buena Vista. We did not know where to find the trail, so we tried to find the tourist center in the area. We drove through the small city that hosts a major Labor Day parade and there we saw them, loads of George Allen signs.
There were the standard yard signs, the large George Allen signs, there were "Sportsmen for Allen" signs in blaze orange. There were signs linking Allen with Congressman Bob Goodlatte. Everywhere Allen. There was one large Webb sign in town, but that was it on Sunday. Remember, Webb will be a good father and see his son off to war today, skipping the Buena Vista parade.
It looked like Allen's signs had mysteriously appeared in the town. But then we found them -- two 20-something young guys in an SUV sporting a National Rifle Association logo on the rear window -- posting the signs all over town.
My son commented, "When I first saw all of the signs, I thought they were funny. Now I find them creepy."
We never found the town's tourist center and the directions we got from one guy in town were not good, so we ended up hiking the trail again from the Lexington side. It was a beautiful walk along a nice shaded trail. Good blue skies, rushing river below us.
Anyway, that's the way Felix is campaigning this Labor Day -- posting signs and parading in a small Virginia town
where they cannot give good directions to a hiking trail, while George's opponent is a good family man and spends time with is war-bound son.
Happy Labor Day to all of you.
