I just turned on the TV expecting to be hear something about the 8 US troops KIA in Iraq yesterday.
Instead, we were told by MSNBC only that "2 Marines were killed yesterday in Anbar Province".
No, it was 8.
You can check out the details here:

One meme of the Right is, "You see, the war in Iraq now is all about sectarianism, not the US occupation." MSNBC and the rest of our 'liberal media' seem hellbent on propagating this meme.
8 US soldiers KIA yesterday beg to differ with it, however.
The Shia in Iraq are split. Badrists v Sadrists.
So by default, even though the Badrists are supported by Iran, the US has to empower them to fight the insurgency and to fight the anti-occupation Iraqi nationalist Shia forces of Sadr.
And most of the 'sectarian' killing is done by, or in retaliation for, the Badrist/Interior Ministry death-squads.
I strongly suspect some specific operations of the latter were planned and controlled by, or with the complicit knowledge of US intelligence personnel under the cover of targeting the insurgency. There is plenty of [http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m23262 evidence] for that available on the Internet.
Thus, most of the 'sectarian' killing is actually a product of US policy and a consequence of the US war of occupation.
The 'liberal media' is determined not to present it that way, however.
Update: Incidentally, 12, yes twelve, US troops died in Iraq on the Sunday before yesterday, August 27, including 10 from hostile fire.
Somehow, I missed seeing that report. I guess it was all over our negative nabob liberal media, and I just didn't see it.
