Yesterday when I woke up and went to my friendly neighborhood blogs, I saw
this story. I shook my head and said to myself "This is outrageous, and on national news. When this hits the media cycle, and people see he's not even trying to get Osama and letting the Taliban have a safe haven..."
But then Rove hit the reset button on the national debate.
Bush gave a rare mid-afternoon speech, interupting not just afternoon soap operas, but the media cycle. Any discussion of the above issue, or his Nazi comments, or any of the other negative media coming his way was reframed into a debate of if we should give the people who planned 9/11 a military tribunal or give the president a rubber stamp.
Meanwhile we are throwing a fit about a mockudrama, which I admit is a horrible distortion, but should not take up more diary entries than the above story. Yet I see no mention of the above story in the recommended diaries, and it is off the front page.
Let's be clear as to what the above story means, and the implications. Functionally the Taliban now has safe haven in an area in Pakistan. A place where they can regroup for an attempt to move back into Afghanistan, plan Terrorist attack, and of course keep terrorists such as Osama Bin Laden safe. Again, based on this report he will not be arrested if found there by our Pakistani "allies".
But we aren't talking about this. We are talking about Clinton.
