I, admittedly haven't been following this story closely, until Kos provided a link to Senator Mitchell, Disney's Chairman. I remembered that I'm actually a shareholder with Disney, so I decided to write him a letter. I figured I'd share this here, because you all inspired me to undertake my first action of shareholder activism.
Read on below the fold.
Dear Senator Mitchell,
My name is William Xxxxxxx, and I am a shareholder with Disney. I only own a single share, purchased by my grandmother in my name when I was very young. I know I don't write today from a position of financial power, but I would like to express my profound dismay with the program The Path to 9-11 that is scheduled to air on Disney subsidiary ABC. I believe it misrepresents the facts of history, and has been created to politicize this greatest American tragedy for partisan gain.
In thinking of this letter, I recalled that single share of Disney. I recall visiting Disney World as a child and absolutely marveling that I owned a part of this. The part that I owned was admittedly small; one frame of Snow White and The Seven Dwarves; one light bulb from The Main Street Electrical Parade: the magic of Disney all the more special because of my single share of the company.
And that magic has always been something to unite America and the world. Disney, be it from Fantasia, to Disney Land, to the Lion King on Broadway, has always been something that brought America together. And it is from this proud history that makes The Path to 9-11 particularly shameful. It is a program intended to obscure the facts, cynically misrepresent events that led to 9-11 and place the blame on President Clinton, and by proxy the Democratic Party.
I urge you, Senator Mitchell, as a shareholder, to use your position to ensure that programming aired by ABC and any media outlet owned by Disney not be used such shameful, partisan ways. Because should The Path to 9-11, or any programming like it air with Disney's imprimatur I will no longer want my single share of that kind of "magic."
Sincerely,
Xxxxxxx Xxxxxx Xxxxxxx
