Clinton is continuing to throw down the gauntlet to ABC and Bob Iger. TPM is
reporting that Clinton's lawyers have now called on ABC to pull the plug on "Path to 9/11":
As a nation, we need to be focused on preventing another attack, not fictionalizing the last one for television ratings. "The Path to 9/11" not only tarnishes the work of the 9/11 Commission, but also cheapens the fith anniversary of what was a very painful moment in history for all Americans. We expect that you will make the responsible decision to not air this film.
In light of Crusty Bunker's
diary on defamation law, it is tempting to hope that perhaps this is a warning salvo across Bob Iger's bow. I think perhaps the assumption we are all making that ABC will actually be showing this tomorrow is not as obvious as it seems. On the other hand, the only two media reports of this letter have appeared on blogs, one progressive -- TPM, and one not so much --
Wizbang.
It seems like the lack of more general news of this letter can mean one of two things. The report is premature and it didn't really get sent. But I don't really see the point of that. The other is that the letter is more for Bob Iger's attention than for ours.
One other pretty interesting point is that this letter is not only signed by Bruce Lindsey, but by Douglas J. Band who is listed as Counselor to President Clinton, Office of William Jefferson Clinton.
Is Big Dog getting ready to sue? It would be fun, wouldn't it?
